Plot
Somewhere in an unspecified world lies the Zone, a heavily restricted territory created after a mysterious event. Deep inside it is said to be a room capable of granting the deepest and most genuine desire of anyone who reaches it.
A man known only as the Stalker works as an illegal guide and agrees to lead two clients inside: a Writer suffering from a crisis of artistic faith and a Professor who approaches the journey through reason and science. As the three men move through the strange and seemingly sentient landscape, their expedition gradually becomes a psychological and philosophical test.
Loosely adapted from Arkady and Boris Strugatsky's Roadside Picnic, Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker uses science fiction as the foundation for a profound meditation on faith, hope, desire and the terrifying possibility of discovering what we truly want.
