La Strada

Young and innocent Gelsomina leaves her impoverished family when her mother gives her to Zampanò, a brutal traveling strongman who moves from town to town performing his act. Gelsomina becomes his assistant, and together they begin an endless journey through the roads of post-war Italy.
Despite Zampanò's cruelty, Gelsomina desperately searches for meaning and a reason to remain beside him. Her encounter with the gentle and playful Fool leads her to wonder whether even the smallest person has a purpose in the world.
