An unemployed young writer in London develops a strange habit: following strangers through the streets and observing their lives in search of inspiration. He establishes strict rules to prevent himself from becoming involved with his subjects — until he chooses the wrong person to follow.

Shot in black and white on a tiny budget and told through a nonlinear structure, Christopher Nolan's feature debut already displays many of the themes that would define his later work: identity, deception, time and the unreliability of what we think we know.
