Joel Barish discovers that his former partner Clementine has undergone an experimental procedure that erased every memory of their relationship. Hurt and angry, he decides to undergo the same treatment.

As the procedure unfolds inside his mind and his memories of Clementine begin disappearing one by one, Joel realises that he no longer wants to lose her.
