Plot
Eva, the wife of a country pastor, invites her mother Charlotte, an internationally celebrated concert pianist, to visit after years of emotional distance. Their reunion begins warmly, but beneath the surface lie decades of resentment, neglect and unresolved pain.
As the night unfolds, mother and daughter are forced to confront the wounds they have avoided for much of their lives. What begins as a family reunion becomes an intense reckoning with love, guilt, abandonment and the longing for acceptance. Bringing Ingmar Bergman and Ingrid Bergman together for their only feature-film collaboration, Autumn Sonata is one of the director's most intimate and emotionally devastating examinations of family relationships.
